I took this trip to Summerport in search of "work" but there seems to be little need for my skills here. Oddly named, this place, as it is colder than any place I've been before. I disembarked from my voyage and met a group of adventurers in a place named The Thieves' Tankard. Perhaps named for the invisible thief that runs around stealing your drink before you've had a chance to take a sip. Certainly not for the wellspring of rogues in the place; I saw not a one. An extremely chatty bard name Theobold explained that we were to seek out a group of humans that some bird people wanted removed from the city. It sounded like a decent opportunity to employ some deception, or maybe even persuasion, but our plans were quickly upended by the invisible girl thief Tilith who explained that there was a meeting set up between the two parties the following day. Instead it was decided we would investigate an obelisk in the city. Our travel to the object was disappointingly uninterrupted. Theobold was looking for some sort of inscription on the obelisk but nothing appeared. A druid in our party offered - rather longwindedly - to shine moonlight on the monolith. This worked and the two wizards with us, Mendartis and Blizkin, produced some parchment to make rubbings at my suggestion. Apparently satisfied, we decided to explore a building across the way that turned out to be an embassy. We came across two bunnies oddly dressed in formal clothing. They dropped two scrolls when we approached and bounded off. I was content to let them go - they were only bunnies after all - but Theobold and Kohaku the druid insisted they could parley with them. To what end, I knew not. We tracked them into the embassy building and one threw itself from an upper level window despite repeated calls for discussion. The druid and one other, I forgot who, went out to attempt a revival of the bunny. I hear they were successful, though it ran away.
Meanwhile inside, the wizard Mendartis - you'd like him I think - sent his raven familiar to scout from above and came upon the other rabbit. We eventually caught up to it and learned the bunnies have an arrangement with the bird people. We're not sure what the nature is. An oddity: those communicating with the rabbit were so desperate to do so, they promised they would not take anything from the embassy. Yet when we returned from the roof I was asked to unlock a chest in an office. I refused, plainly. Such bold reversal of morality did not sit well with me. They forced the chest without my assistance and discovered some kind of contract between the bunnies and the bird people. There were also three diamonds of significant size, presumably payment for fulfillment of said contract. These were pilfered by our party. As you are well aware my skills are sometimes put to nefarious use, but always for a purpose. This act seemed one of pure greed. Nevertheless, we pressed forward in hopes of encountering the group of humans mentioned previously. They seem a difficult lot to locate, but we did come across a shapeshifter. It eyed us warily and took up an aggressive stance. I drew my bow and was a hair's breadth from releasing the string - despite many protests from the group - when the werewolf turned to slink away. Rounding the corner it howled and received several responses throughout the city. I do not understand these folks' aversion to danger. Seven of us - seven! - against a lone wolf would have been a glorious challenge. Sadly it was not to be. With the day growing dark and my thirst for adventure unslaked, we endeavored to return to the tavern. Luckily we came across a pair of ghasts feeding within a building and dispatched them easily. To recount the skirmish would prove boring and I'm at the end of this parchment regardless. I believe I shall return to Black River Island on the next ship and then make my way to the city. I'm intrigued by the Gilded Serpent. There is much knowledge to be mined there, I feel. Warm regards, Fagan P.S. When I handed my letter to the postmaster, he placed it in a box, then handed the box to me to take to the ship. Apparently the post will be traveling on the same ship I am back to Black River Island. A waste of parchment if I say so, but I shall deliver it to you nonetheless. P.P.S. Re: The diamonds. Two are to be sold for their value while Mendartis retained the third for magical uses. Upon receipt of my portion I shall have it returned to the rabbits along with information on the fate of the remainder of their stash.
