1/21/2018 0 Comments Silent Mockingbirdby Eilis Gilrin (Vera d)Dear Ayten, I think I'm in love. His name is Silent Mockingbird, a tabaxi arms dealer. Yes, I know I don't have the greatest luck in love but he's charming! So how did I meet him? Let me tell you: So, you know we had to go back into the polar bear's den to get Aqmar, our family's sword. We went in and I conversed with a couple of fish to determine which direction the polar bear had taken it. We ended up at the edge of a water-filled cavern. Your friend, Makani Pahili, being a tortle, entered the water without a hitch, as did Salazar. Ser Mathius and I took our time but then a translucent cube attacked us! Salazar and Ser Mathius punctured the gel monster until it died. I talked to some crabs on the other side of cavern and they directed us to the right. We continued until we found some cliff faces, which we climbed. Druidic writing seemed to warn us of danger but we pressed on. Salazar scouted ahead and indeed found the polar bear's den, inhabited by a healthy number of bears. The rest of us sneaked down a tunnel fit for humanoids, too small for the bears to follow, while Salazar swiped a staff from one of the five chambers in the den. At the end of the tunnel, we found a torch lit room with hundreds of weapons laying about. A feline form dressed in a robe sat cross-legged atop the table in the middle of the room, holding Aqmar in his hands. He spoke to us without turning and said he admired Aqmar. Salazar was poised to attack but I pleaded with the figure to give my beloved sword back, to which he turned and acquiesced. I was surprised -- first he was a tabaxi, and he was so kind! He gave me a staff of flowers in addition to giving Aqmar back. Wow. I want to come back and help him return to his lands. For now, he trades weapons and cares for the bears. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. I've got a soft spot for bad boys. UGH. See you soon, Ayten. I know we have to battle the hags! I depart for Black River Island tomorrow. Love, Eilis

by Makani Pahili (Joe R)Ahoy Ahoy Ayten! Oh am so glad that you told me to find your sister Eilis here in Summerport. While I have heard stories otherwise, since hatching and spending my time on Omgar he has not travelled to any colder climates, it initially seemed so harsh and inhospitable! Once I found Eilis in the inn though and was given a nice warm coat by a very helpful man everything turned right around. Did you know a bear took her sword? At first I thought she was affected by the cold, but a large black lizard and a kindly elderly gentleman confirmed her story. As soon as they told me they wanted to go and get it back from this “pole” bear that took it from her I volunteered to help immediately! My first adventure since leaving Omgar! I know I came here intending to figure out who or what is defying Valkur and keeping the weather of Summerport unnaturally cold, but I thought this seemed like a good opportunity to meet allies for the times ahead and get familiar with the area. We left the deceptively named Thieves Tankard (everyone seemed so very nice and helpful) and headed south toward where the sword was seen last before the Pole bear picked it up (still sounds crazy). The town seemed almost deserted, but apparently they have been having a problem with dead not staying dead. All we saw were some birds… a lot of birds. I am certain if you were here you could have talked to the birds and it would have been Ok, but they got very aggressive and attacked us. We tried to shoo them away with our weapons and they accidentally died… sorry. We eventually found the caves we were looking for and descended down till we reached a pool of water where the tunnel keeps going. The very small and cheerful man that follows around the elderly man made a warm fire which is good because I was concerned for Martius in this cold! Apparently he is older than any Tortle I have ever seen!!!! Also his skin is so…. stretchy looking…. but I really like him, he is very brave. Once the lizardman, Salazar and I scouted to make sure it was clear we all swam though the tunnel. I was in the back and just barely noticed, but as Salazar cleared the water he started fighting something! I couldn’t see it but I wanted to help! We all rushed to the edge of the water tunnel and I ran out the water, Salazar was slashing his swords but all I saw were shadows! Your sister cast a spell of some sort and all of the sudden I saw a giant square covered in vines standing directly in front of Salazar! I knew I had to do something so I blessed my fellows to help them achieve victory! But out of nowhere poor kind Martius was sucked into the giant odd beast! I’ve never seen anything like it…. all I could think to do was call upon the winds and thunder of Valkur to aid them. Eventually we were able to slay it, we all were fine and wow did it feel great! My first battle since leaving Omgar! Martius was definitely covered in very nasty jelly of some sort though. I will have to check up on him, pneumonia is very dangerous to older Tortles, I am thinking humans more so…. After this we continued up the tunnel, they discovered some scribbles on the wall but we kept going. Eventually coming up to an open room. At this point I learn what a Pole bear is and Oh man are they colossal. They look far stronger than the things living on Omgar and the cave was filled with them. Obviously if these creatures like shiny things I don’t think we could take them back by force. After following a side path away from the bears we came upon a well-lit room and I couldn’t believe it, the room was lined with weapons and armor! A man sat in the middle of the room but…no…he wasn’t a human man. He had ears and features akin to the Burr cats that live on Omgar! I learned later that he was a Tabaxi, his name was Silent Mockingbird and he had Eilis’s sword. I liked him very much and he gave Eilis back her sword without complaint. He claims the pole bears bring him stuff and offered to help us if we want to purchase weapons as he has so many on his walls. I would like to talk to him again. I did ask him briefly about the weather and the history of the area, he told me I should check with some monks who reside in a tower. Maybe they keep a history or are very old, either way a group of adventurers are heading to it on very soon and I am going to go with them. Hopefully I can solve this problem and bring the seasons back to Summerport. Sincerely, Makani Pahili Cleric of Valkur by Ayten Gilrin (Vera d.) Jan 17TL;DR: Ayten hires Rawq, Morgrimm, Zorak, and Shield leader, Udoroth, to seek the last sylvan sword called "Summer's Breath" in the northwestern mountains with Dufdor (the firbolg's help). The party takes the sea route and encounter a shark (thwarted with Beast Bond), an abolith in Dead Man's Grotto, and discover a nest of manticores. They discover that an earthquake had set loose Heartslayer, the undead Eladrinne warrior who protects the sylvan sword, Summer's Breath. They delve into the underdark and discover the ancient drow mausoleums and a treasure trove. Dear Eilis and Theobold, First - dear sister Eilis - I'm sorry you lost your sword, Aqmar, to a clever polar bear. I hope the recovery goes without a hitch. I have successfully acquired Summer's Breath, but it wasn't easy. The undead elf, Heartslayer, was sworn to protect it and he gave us a good fight -- in a drow temple! I will have it for you when you return from Summerport next week. Theobold: In this journey, we have established an alliance with the firbolgs, led by Dufdor and his sister Audra. Together, we opened the spire using arcane means: Bless (Morgrimm), Jump (me), Druidcraft (Dufdor), and Jump (Audra). We entered the tomb without disturbing the plate but discovered an earthquake had opened the door leading to Heartslayer. We jumped in and followed the quake to a series of tunnels that ultimately led us to a company of skeleton soldiers (magic stone is pretty handy for destroying skellies) and delved into a drow crypt. Heartslayer was waiting for us in the drow temple. Udo had successfully summoned one of the undead minions and had Heartslayer under his control but for a moment. I had wildshaped into a giant spider but unfortunately, Heartslayer got the best of me. I ran out of wildshapes but fortunately my heroic companions prevailed. We found the exit leading back to the forest and got back safely. Lore on the obelisks and the swords: The four spires in Black River are from a primordial elf race from before the cataclysm. The eladrinne created the swords to evoke the four seasons of war. They magnify power and Midden Heap has her hands on the Spring sword. The White Tower has a fairy ring by it that opens on the night of a full moon. By the way, have you ever heard of an abolith? He was an odd slimy creature waiting for us in a grotto we dubbed Dead Man's Grotto. He was accompanied by a couple of pale almost translucent fisherman. He really messed with our heads and kept inviting us to join him. I fought him as a giant octopus but ultimately escaped to prevent further injury. I think you try to make contact with this strange humanoid. Zorak had the heebie jeebies about him. P.S. I have added to my catalog of creatures on Black River "Island." 1/15/2018 0 Comments You're in Good Handsby eilis gilrin (Vera d)Dear Ayten,
I swear I was on my way back to Black River Island but I got caught up in some shenanigans with Salazar and his crew. I accompanied them south of the Thieve's Tankard to clear out more undead. At the store, "You're in Good Hands," we encountered a few undead, one of whom was using the chamber pot when we burst in and attacked him. We cleared the store and crossed over to an abandoned school. We discovered lots of chalk and then a locked room. Upon opening it, we found undead skeleton children dancing in a circle, as if they were performing "Ring around the rosy, pocket full of posey." We brutally exterminated them. We proceeded down the hallways when I heard a polar bear clamoring outside in the courtyard. We discovered one last undead and as I tried to attack it, I chucked Aqmar through the window and into the courtyard! It was then that the polar bear grabbed Aqmar by the scabbard and dragged it into his den. Salazar and Ser Mathius tried to pursue but decided to come back. I won't be back just now because now I have to recover Aqmar from this family of polar bears. Love your sister, Eiilis |
