11/3/2017 0 Comments The Monument and the Wightby roscoe greenfeld (Joe r.) 4-6 hsTL;DR: We may have profited nicely from what was in the tomb...or prison….or whatever it was for a hoard of undead. More scholarly adventurers might want to go investigate the monument, it definitely raises many questions. Roscoe hates magic. A day prior most of us stumbled upon a monument of sorts hidden among the trees, just off the coast, about 5 miles east of the black river tavern. The structure has a massive spire that was just visible amongst the tall trees. The structure itself was a masterwork in stone, barely any noticeable gaps or flaws (as per the dwarves) That first visit we could not find our way in with shovel or hammer, so we decided to head back and get some proper equipment. We needed to see what was in it! Benny Greenfeld, Rawq, Morgrimm, Ayten and I (Roscoe) had my fisherman buddy, Rayberto, transport us along the shore 5 miles. We had chisels, sledge hammers, crowbars etc etc anything one would need to get into a tomb or whatever the blasts that thing was; We did not feel it wise to hike through this cursed swamp so weighed down. Upon arrival (around lunchtime) Rawq and I got to work trying to pry open what appeared to be a door. My brother started a smoky fire which I was certain alerted ever frog face in the marshes…. what an idiot. Luckily for him no threats appeared.

TL;DR: A party of adventurers descend into a sylvan obelisk/crypt along the southeastern coast of the bayou. Recommend returning to identify the creatures depicted in the murals and secure the area for Rawq's stone quarry. Roscoe's Recap | Rawq's Recap
Report to the Theobold Peacekeeper, Lead Ambassador of the Heralds on Black River Island Dear Theobold, The dwarven monk, Rawq, recruited me to explore the southeastern coast of the bayou on the fourth of High Spring. I accepted his invitation in hopes of pinpointing the nest of the large birds I have heard about from other adventurers. I ventured forth with Rawq, a pair of brothers, the Greenfelds (Roscoe, a stout fighter, and Benedict, or Benny), and another dwarf, Morgrimm, a cleric. On their last trek out to the bayou, they had found a stone monolith and we returned there to determine what it represented. After 16 hours of trying to open the spire, the stone structure disintegrated and fell into the earth. We hopped in and found that the walls were adorned with tiiled murals of a sylvan or elvish folk but completley foreign even to me. They do not look like the elves of Sanctus. They have more pointed ears and slanted eyes. One mural depicted a female sylvan ruler forcing a black-haired sylvan into a submissive position, his wrists bound behind his back. The other mural showed the same black-haired sylvan but with three other female sylvans with red, copper, and blonde hair. 11/3/2017 0 Comments A Tavern Tale…Later in Week 3by Rawq Elrid (Doug s) 4-6 hsTL;DR: Rawq and fellow adventurers open an obelisk/crypt and fight a hoard of zombies. Roscoe's Recap | Ayten's Recap The tavern is oddly silent and vacant, as Rawq enters followed by Roscoe, Benedict, Morgrimm and, the much taller of the team, Ayten. Dougal is just finishing up a late breakfast as he turns his eyes to the group. Rawq smiles sheepishly and announces, “Good to see you, Dougal! We actually have a tale and a trinket to share with you this fine morning." Benedict walks up to the fully occupied table with a large glass of wine and five small mugs of Dunkel as Rawq continues his recounting of the most recent adventure. “…then we finally chisel our way around the heavy, stone vault door when we feel a rush of stale air escape the chamber. We had open the sealed door, but then the slab crashed down and broke into a few large pieces. Inside, the anticipated darkness was disrupted by four beams of white energy radiating from the corners of the room to the four corners of the giant, stone spire. As we entered, the beams flickered and dissipated followed by a huge crunching thud as the pointed based of the spike struck hard into the floor. I found magical some inscriptions around the base of the spike, as confirmed by Morgrimm’s divination of magicks, and took rubbings to examine later with arcane experts in town. Ayten, Benedict and Morgrimm discovered elaborate mosaics in fine shape on the chamber walls depicting scenes of some ancient elven race in scenes of combat and judgment.” “Upon closer inspection of the floor at the spire’s point of impact, Roscoe and I found a large circular gate or swirling portal door. There was a metallic box in the center of the portal which contained sixteen small tiles with two-digit numbers etched on the surface of each one. Benedict and Roscoe surmised the tiles were some type of a combination lock puzzle…no doubt remembered from some halfling game played in their youth.” Rawq takes a swig of ale from the undersized mug, glances briefly at Benedict in dissatisfaction, then focuses back on Dougal to progress the story. 10/19/2017 0 Comments a Tavern tale by rawq elrid - week 3by rawq elrid (doug s) 1-3 hsTL;DR: Merman attacks Black River Island and the party finds a spire in the southeastern coast of the bayou's mainland. As the fishing boat docks on the east end of Black River Island, the intrepid…and collectively diminutive…team of Rawq, Roscoe, Benedict and Morgrimm step off to gather their thoughts and a well-earned meal at the tavern. Just outside Hurlee’s establishment, Dougal approaches to inquire about the latest excursion to the bayou. Rawq turns slowly and stares at Dougal for a moment, then meters out a response, “We had a very busy few days in the bayou and I think more discoveries are on the horizon.” Dougal hesitates for a moment and smiles at the causally clad dwarf. “Hmmm. Do tell, Rawq. Do tell.” Rawq escorts Dougal into the tavern, buys a round of drinks and begins to describe his adventures. “As you no doubt witness from the docks, the 1st of High Spring delivered quite a surprise to our party’s initial foray into the mouth of the bayou. We were ferociously attacked by a large merman creature being controlled by what we could only surmise to be a sea witch. The green skinned, black haired sorcerer used magicks to coordinate the merman’s melee against Roscoe and me, plus directly strike at Benedict from long range. My fool-hearty assault on the man-fish was tempered by the mighty flail strikes from Roscoe and the healing energies provided by Morgrimm, the Cleric of Life. The nimble attack from Benedict upon the witch distinguished himself as a favored enemy of the sorcerer…which may actually prove to be an advantage to draw her out again when we are more prepared to repel her cunning tactics. Unfortunately, I was not able to retrieve any portion of the merman for investigation, or nourishment, but we do not believe this creature to be a specific enemy of our settlement. The sea witch clearly displayed she manipulated it to attack us.” “The remainder of our travels were far less…entertaining, but did reveal some interesting information. We set out on the 2nd to further evaluate Gator Rock, as we all have been calling it, for any signs of runes or unique construction. After some tense moments luring Leatherhead away from this perch, we did not detect any magic aura or inscriptions upon the huge stone upheaving from the depths. However, Morgrimm did detect distinctive scratching sound from deep within the stone that correlates to Leatherhead submerging in the river with a fresh deer kill. The four of us are aligned that the gigantic alligator has found a cave beneath the water level in the stone that it is using as a lair or nest. Curiosity begs the question of whether a larger cave or tunnel may also exist within the natural rock formation.” “We continued southeast for some time and discovered more giant toads, but no bullywugs in that area. The remainder of our travels proved to be interesting, but requiring further scouting to attempt to establish a secondary entranceway into the bayou. This is currently very dangerous based on the big-beaked bird creatures that nest near the beaches of the southern coastline. These swift and colorful fowl have made a large settlement in that area…and appear to thoroughly enjoy sea turtle for dinner. It was a rather surprising sight to see.” Rawq pauses and looks down at his mug of Dunkel grimly, then perks up to state, “Would you like to try some gator-jerky Hurlee and I made last week? It finally absorbed the correct balance of what few spices we had available to us here in the area. Try some and tell me what you think. I will be taking some along with my party as we head into the bayou again later this week.” 10/19/2017 0 Comments A Tavern Tale - Week 2by rawq eldrid (Doug S.) ss 20-23Rawq is pleasantly distracted as he unwraps the remains of a large alligator on Hurlee’s cutting board table. Large pieces of meat, three swatches of back-hide and three-quarters of the creature’s thick tail fall before the stunned care-taker of the Black River Island Tavern. “What do ya think about this catch, Hurlee?” Rawq smiles and continues, “The best part is how my friends and I ended up with this heap of flesh!” “As we headed out into the bayou on Day 21, all seemed calm in the wild lands. However, the approach to trailhead marker of The Shield revealed a large group of bullywugs, their giant frog familiars and what appeared to be a shaman of their kin. Suddenly, the mystic shaman bullywug cast some sort of cloud or mist magicks that concealed the entire group of frog-folk and we darted to the riverbank to prepare for an attack. To our surprise, all of the creatures retreated to the north without one hint of aggression. They may have hear tale of Udoroth and I routing their kin a few days earlier and ran off…but I am not so sure that to be true. |
