TLDR: Five days leading up to the ultimate hag showdown, we ran six assaults throughout the week leading up to Feb. 17 - from attacking the hags in their lairs, to defending Black River Island, and finally escorting the firbolg clan to Griphon's Roost. On Feb. 17, 20 players and 2 DMs converged for a 9-hour session to close out a major plot point. Three tactical squads (melee, range, and blended) deployed to take on two of the three standing hags, Molly and Midden Heap, at the White Tower, a gateway to the feywild on the night of the full moon. Many fell throughout the battle but we survived and "won" in 6 rounds. Thanks to all who played in the week and day of! (Thank you Lisa S. for recording this on paper as the raid occurred!)
We arrived at the space of the White Tower an hour before sunset. Merelda (through a clairvoyance potion) and the Jinn through his Raven familiar, scouted the tower’s location. The found a variety of 12 bullywugs, frogs, X lizardfolk, 5 Sahaugin, and 4 merrow. Squad 1 advanced. Liam drew the first blood with fire bolt, followed by Liana with an arrow. Kohaku held down the bullywug with a spiked growth. Squad 2 advanced. Squad 3 advanced. Lucretia called for her squad a blessing and called that they leave no one behind. Rhogar summoned a huge snake. Glin jumped on Rhogar’s horse and they rode into the fray. Krolan snuck in from the East side of the fray. Two Deepbreath lizardfolk advanced on the river, disappearing under the water as another squad dove into concealment. Many of the bullywugs tried to move through the spike growth, taking a fair amount of damage and killing 2 and bloodying another. The green hag disappeared from the battlefield. A tree erupted into entangling plants and a blight in the midst of Squad 2. The merrow engaged Krolan with harpoons. The second harpoon pulled him into their clutches. Another squad of Strongclaw lizardfolk advanced on Squad 2 and threw javelins at Koltalon. He knocked one aside but another struck him. Squad 1 advanced further. Shaena and Kohaku struck the Blight as Brea attempted to cast control water from a scroll. Instead she created a fog cloud along the river. Squad 2 Liam used a twinned scorching ray, causing a beam of fire to boil away the blight. Jinn cast dragon breath on Udoroth and then used acid splash on the Strongclaw lizardfolk near Koltalon. Koltalon advanced on the Strongclaw lizardfolk. He drew Autumn Fury & Summer’s Breath. They sung to him and he smashed them together to create an arcane longsword with smoke rising from the blade: Firestorm. Merelda cast sacred flame. Roscoe and Bennie shot short bows into the Strongclaw lizardfolk. Squad 3 Krolan engaged with the Merrow. Vincentos tried to cross the river and was attacked by the two Deepbreath swimming lizardfolk. He cast hellish rebuke and killed the first. Lucretzia cast sacred flame on the remaining river-lizardfolk, but missed. Rhogar and Glin rode forward on his horse and tried to trample the Strongclaw lizardfolk. Tormund tolled the dead and then dove into the river. Glin did acid splash on the Deepbreath lizardfolk.

11/16/2017 0 Comments killing leatherheadby brea (becca w.) 16-17 hsTL;DR; we killed Leatherhead, then went back out into the bayou full of confidence and got sent high tailing back to the tavern by lizard folk.
On the 16th of high spring, our party ventured into the bayou to complete some unfinished business in some ruins. We had no idea where the ruins were but we set out anyways. I purchased Sanctonal’s last canoe, another party member... commandeered a canoe from his brother in-law. This was my first trip into the bayou and there were many specimen in the surrounding areas, including a giant alligator. I would have loved to study him in his natural habitat, however he was quite hostile— as many others had experienced as well. We had quite a toussle with the gator, named leatherhead affectionately by other adventurers. He nearly drowned our new companion but the party bravely did not give up when he let go and sank into the black waters. They dove into the waters, slaying the beast in his home. We returned to the tavern that same day with plenty meat on the bone which the innkeep smoked for us. Full of spirit on the 17th, we ventured back in to the bayou full force, not knowing where the ruins were again...We ventured straight into the bayou, past the gator's lair and avoiding the first turn to the right. We went on NE for one full day, then encountered another fork. We went on West rather than North, and after 3 hours we found a watering hole. We continued on for a time and encountered a group of 6 lizard folk. They, too, were hostile. They had rainbow scales and made shrill whistles, calling to their kin while one escaped away. It was peculiar call, starting low, then high and back to a medium pitch. I would be interested to talk to them, if I could prevent an immediate attack though I fear they may be beyond reason.. 11/10/2017 0 Comments Queen Beeby brea daergle (by becca w.) 5 hsI have met some wonderful folk in a lovely tavern on this “Black River Island” who have agreed to allow me to interact with a Queen Bee. We have all agreed that the best course of action here is to be diplomatic and disguise the main goal of creating hives for a meadery as expanding the Queen’s “Queendom”. I was very excited to have found an old dear friend, Chat, in the tavern as well. What a lovely surprise. We will be leaving on our journey soon. What follows is my documentation on the local fauna and flora we discover on our trip. My goal is to be able to become a guide for these wild lands as I discover it, and to provide an insight to the surroundings so that others might also find joy in these lands as I do. From Black River Tavern due East, approximately 1-5 miles. Thick, dense vegetation, not unlike the bayou due north of the Tavern. The air is thick, heavy with dampness and the smell of degrading flora. The coastline is more a wetland with a smattering of trees. I can see that there are heavy rainfalls in the afternoon that push debris out of the bayou. Wildlife in this area for myself is uncharted. Note: talk to the locals to get a feel for the lovely creatures that might reside within. From Black River Tavern due East, mile 5, approximately. The bayou has slowly turned into a more normal coast line, including beautiful sandy beaches, seagulls and typical birds of paradise. I did see an anomaly, however. There were 3 nesting pairs of rather large birds. These birds had large flat bills and long legs, not unlike some birds I have heard of in lore from the dark days. I can tell the water is bountiful with fish, as one birds, likely a male, entered the water to about 3 feet, dunked his head and clearly had a suitable quantity of fish in his bill. Note: Establish contact, decide on a name to call these birds. Learn to fish. |
