3/3/2018 0 Comments The Challenge of the chiefsby Shaena Tosscobble (Lisa S.)Play Dates: 3/3/2018 Present: Shaena Tosscobble (Lisa), Glin Ybendawien Droat (Kep), Merelda (Vera), Salazar (Paul), Rhogar (Mike) In-Game Date: 3/3 – 15/2018 TL;DR: We travelled to the Great Scale village and restored relations, staying with them until Salazar could participate in the Challenge of the Chiefs as the Kunyata Kar. A charred and blackened lizardfolk strode into the Fort Providence tavern, catching my attention with his towering height and strangely sophisticated garb. He introduced himself as Salazar, fresh off the road from Summerport by way of Griffin’s Roost. A talkative lizard, Salazar was happy to share his story over an ale. Stolen from his clan by slavers, set free by a pirate, and eventually cast into an obelisk for 700 years, his was quite the tale. As we talked, we were joined by Merelda, Glin, and Rhogar. Salazar told us that Theobald Peacekeeper, the Herald’s traitor, had told him of the plight of the lizardfolk in the Black River delta. We explained our experience with the lizardfolk, from their work for the hags to the death of Chief Atuji. Salazar told us of the wintry tundra of Summerport, asking Merelda to rent a locker to store his heavy marathon pelt. After deliberating our options, we decided to take news of Atuji’s death to the Greatscale clan, hoping to take advantage of their honorable nature. We set out, north through the wetlands on a pleasantly humid day, passing the remnants of a recently slaughtered boar. We were surprised at how nice the trip was, without any blights or curses to muddy the path. We arrived at the Greatscale village just before evening, approaching the tower by a well-established path through a tunnel of trees. As we approached the line of lizardfolk defenders, I cast Tongues and hopped up on Salazar’s tale, playing The Fall of a Noble Warrior, the dirge I had written in honor of Chief Atuji. As we approached, one of the lizardfolk called out to Salazar, asking him if he knew the words “Kunyata Kar”. My spell caused the words to ring in my head as “The Old Ones”. He did not, but he offered the Great Scale a blade as a token of good will. One of the guards ran to the village proper to ask about our admission. While we waited, the lizardfolk treated us to food and I sang them the song in full. Upon hearing of their chief’s death, the great scale guard said they would beseech Semuanya and hold a tournament to determine the divinely appointed successor to Chief Atuji. When we asked, they told us they had been able to recover their stolen eggs from the Midden Heap’s lair after she had fallen. After an hour, the runner returned, and we were asked to follow them to the Tribal Lands to speak with the venerable Shaman, Veka. As we passed between the hide-covered tents, lizardfolk young and old looked to Salazar, repeating the phrase “Kunyata Kar.” We followed the runners into the long great hall, were we were introduced to Veka, the village shaman. All around us were the Great Scale spoils of combat, including half a dozen shields bearing the symbols of Black River Island. Veka welcomed us and asked me to tell of Atuji’s death. I sang The Fall of a Noble Warrior once again. She asked if we had brought his weapons and shield, that they could honor him properly. I told her that we had them preserved at Fort Providence, but that they could be returned to her and her people. TLDR: Five days leading up to the ultimate hag showdown, we ran six assaults throughout the week leading up to Feb. 17 - from attacking the hags in their lairs, to defending Black River Island, and finally escorting the firbolg clan to Griphon's Roost. On Feb. 17, 20 players and 2 DMs converged for a 9-hour session to close out a major plot point. Three tactical squads (melee, range, and blended) deployed to take on two of the three standing hags, Molly and Midden Heap, at the White Tower, a gateway to the feywild on the night of the full moon. Many fell throughout the battle but we survived and "won" in 6 rounds. Thanks to all who played in the week and day of! (Thank you Lisa S. for recording this on paper as the raid occurred!)
We arrived at the space of the White Tower an hour before sunset. Merelda (through a clairvoyance potion) and the Jinn through his Raven familiar, scouted the tower’s location. The found a variety of 12 bullywugs, frogs, X lizardfolk, 5 Sahaugin, and 4 merrow. Squad 1 advanced. Liam drew the first blood with fire bolt, followed by Liana with an arrow. Kohaku held down the bullywug with a spiked growth. Squad 2 advanced. Squad 3 advanced. Lucretia called for her squad a blessing and called that they leave no one behind. Rhogar summoned a huge snake. Glin jumped on Rhogar’s horse and they rode into the fray. Krolan snuck in from the East side of the fray. Two Deepbreath lizardfolk advanced on the river, disappearing under the water as another squad dove into concealment. Many of the bullywugs tried to move through the spike growth, taking a fair amount of damage and killing 2 and bloodying another. The green hag disappeared from the battlefield. A tree erupted into entangling plants and a blight in the midst of Squad 2. The merrow engaged Krolan with harpoons. The second harpoon pulled him into their clutches. Another squad of Strongclaw lizardfolk advanced on Squad 2 and threw javelins at Koltalon. He knocked one aside but another struck him. Squad 1 advanced further. Shaena and Kohaku struck the Blight as Brea attempted to cast control water from a scroll. Instead she created a fog cloud along the river. Squad 2 Liam used a twinned scorching ray, causing a beam of fire to boil away the blight. Jinn cast dragon breath on Udoroth and then used acid splash on the Strongclaw lizardfolk near Koltalon. Koltalon advanced on the Strongclaw lizardfolk. He drew Autumn Fury & Summer’s Breath. They sung to him and he smashed them together to create an arcane longsword with smoke rising from the blade: Firestorm. Merelda cast sacred flame. Roscoe and Bennie shot short bows into the Strongclaw lizardfolk. Squad 3 Krolan engaged with the Merrow. Vincentos tried to cross the river and was attacked by the two Deepbreath swimming lizardfolk. He cast hellish rebuke and killed the first. Lucretzia cast sacred flame on the remaining river-lizardfolk, but missed. Rhogar and Glin rode forward on his horse and tried to trample the Strongclaw lizardfolk. Tormund tolled the dead and then dove into the river. Glin did acid splash on the Deepbreath lizardfolk. 11/7/2017 0 Comments meeting with dufdorby ayten gilrin (vera d) 14 hsTL;DR: Leave ancient monuments and artifacts alone; maintain balance by staying out of the bayou. Otherwise, replace those which you displace. Report also contains information about the ancient Eladrinne in the obelisk and the names and relationships of the hags. Dear Theobold, A party of us (Lindir of Shield, Aredhel, Glin, Shaena Tosscobble, and a new explorer, Grildor Trueforge) met with Dufdor tonight. I told him about the spire falling in and fighting the undead wight while Lindir mentioned the discovery of the painting that appears to be a portal to the feywild. Dufdor was displeased and said we need to leave alone the ancient monuments that survived the Great Cataclysm. He noted that there is a place in the west that we especially must not disturb and that the lizardfolk are united in protecting it from interference because the great evil within is worse than the hags. No matter who is in charge, the chiefs rely on honor to guard the pyramid. He knew of the tomb that I explored with Rawq, the Greenfelds, and Morgrimm, and said that the beings on the murals are fey called Eladrinne who thrived before elves are the elves that we know of today. The Eladrinne harnessed ancient magic that still have a presence in the bayou. Dufdor cautioned us against awakening the hags. He said the bayou is their playground and their anger has yet to be awakened. The hags are:
10/16/2017 0 Comments Report to dougal - the hags & firbolgby theobold peacekepper (alan H.) 7hs 1aeTL:DR Firbolgs and WE'RE BEING PLAYED BY THE HAGS “Success, Dougal, at last!” Theobold bursts into Marchwarden Dougal’s office with a smile and excitement in his voice. “Our attempt to encounter a Bullywug scout camp didn’t work as planned, but we encountered a new race, one that has fashioned themselves as watchers and guardians of the Black River Bayou. They’re tall, large, almost like the legends of ogres, but something more human in shape. Their faces are sylvan-like, and- gah, I could go on!” Theobold’s typically reserved and professional manner is completely overridden by his energy. I cross referenced some books I have, and it matches only the brief snippets of lore around Firbolgs. It has to be them. Reclusive, wary of strangers, understands giant and elvish, it all fits! This one called himself Dufdor, “Watcher of the Southern Waters”. He claimed to have been watching us and observing our presence in the swamp. He lamented how things have been going, and was concerned for our ignorance.” Theobold begins to get silent as he contemplates all the hardships, violence, and death that has happened so far in the expeditions. “Moreso, he warned us. He protected us from walking into an ambush of some kind of twisted lizard creatures (not to be confused with Lizardfolk). This land is torn into chaos by the Hags, who pit the other races native to the Bayou against each other for their entertainment and pleasure. |
