3/3/2018 0 Comments The Challenge of the chiefsby Shaena Tosscobble (Lisa S.)Play Dates: 3/3/2018 Present: Shaena Tosscobble (Lisa), Glin Ybendawien Droat (Kep), Merelda (Vera), Salazar (Paul), Rhogar (Mike) In-Game Date: 3/3 – 15/2018 TL;DR: We travelled to the Great Scale village and restored relations, staying with them until Salazar could participate in the Challenge of the Chiefs as the Kunyata Kar. A charred and blackened lizardfolk strode into the Fort Providence tavern, catching my attention with his towering height and strangely sophisticated garb. He introduced himself as Salazar, fresh off the road from Summerport by way of Griffin’s Roost. A talkative lizard, Salazar was happy to share his story over an ale. Stolen from his clan by slavers, set free by a pirate, and eventually cast into an obelisk for 700 years, his was quite the tale. As we talked, we were joined by Merelda, Glin, and Rhogar. Salazar told us that Theobald Peacekeeper, the Herald’s traitor, had told him of the plight of the lizardfolk in the Black River delta. We explained our experience with the lizardfolk, from their work for the hags to the death of Chief Atuji. Salazar told us of the wintry tundra of Summerport, asking Merelda to rent a locker to store his heavy marathon pelt. After deliberating our options, we decided to take news of Atuji’s death to the Greatscale clan, hoping to take advantage of their honorable nature. We set out, north through the wetlands on a pleasantly humid day, passing the remnants of a recently slaughtered boar. We were surprised at how nice the trip was, without any blights or curses to muddy the path. We arrived at the Greatscale village just before evening, approaching the tower by a well-established path through a tunnel of trees. As we approached the line of lizardfolk defenders, I cast Tongues and hopped up on Salazar’s tale, playing The Fall of a Noble Warrior, the dirge I had written in honor of Chief Atuji. As we approached, one of the lizardfolk called out to Salazar, asking him if he knew the words “Kunyata Kar”. My spell caused the words to ring in my head as “The Old Ones”. He did not, but he offered the Great Scale a blade as a token of good will. One of the guards ran to the village proper to ask about our admission. While we waited, the lizardfolk treated us to food and I sang them the song in full. Upon hearing of their chief’s death, the great scale guard said they would beseech Semuanya and hold a tournament to determine the divinely appointed successor to Chief Atuji. When we asked, they told us they had been able to recover their stolen eggs from the Midden Heap’s lair after she had fallen. After an hour, the runner returned, and we were asked to follow them to the Tribal Lands to speak with the venerable Shaman, Veka. As we passed between the hide-covered tents, lizardfolk young and old looked to Salazar, repeating the phrase “Kunyata Kar.” We followed the runners into the long great hall, were we were introduced to Veka, the village shaman. All around us were the Great Scale spoils of combat, including half a dozen shields bearing the symbols of Black River Island. Veka welcomed us and asked me to tell of Atuji’s death. I sang The Fall of a Noble Warrior once again. She asked if we had brought his weapons and shield, that they could honor him properly. I told her that we had them preserved at Fort Providence, but that they could be returned to her and her people. by Makani Pahili (Joe R)Ahoy Ahoy Ayten! Oh am so glad that you told me to find your sister Eilis here in Summerport. While I have heard stories otherwise, since hatching and spending my time on Omgar he has not travelled to any colder climates, it initially seemed so harsh and inhospitable! Once I found Eilis in the inn though and was given a nice warm coat by a very helpful man everything turned right around. Did you know a bear took her sword? At first I thought she was affected by the cold, but a large black lizard and a kindly elderly gentleman confirmed her story. As soon as they told me they wanted to go and get it back from this “pole” bear that took it from her I volunteered to help immediately! My first adventure since leaving Omgar! I know I came here intending to figure out who or what is defying Valkur and keeping the weather of Summerport unnaturally cold, but I thought this seemed like a good opportunity to meet allies for the times ahead and get familiar with the area. We left the deceptively named Thieves Tankard (everyone seemed so very nice and helpful) and headed south toward where the sword was seen last before the Pole bear picked it up (still sounds crazy). The town seemed almost deserted, but apparently they have been having a problem with dead not staying dead. All we saw were some birds… a lot of birds. I am certain if you were here you could have talked to the birds and it would have been Ok, but they got very aggressive and attacked us. We tried to shoo them away with our weapons and they accidentally died… sorry. We eventually found the caves we were looking for and descended down till we reached a pool of water where the tunnel keeps going. The very small and cheerful man that follows around the elderly man made a warm fire which is good because I was concerned for Martius in this cold! Apparently he is older than any Tortle I have ever seen!!!! Also his skin is so…. stretchy looking…. but I really like him, he is very brave. Once the lizardman, Salazar and I scouted to make sure it was clear we all swam though the tunnel. I was in the back and just barely noticed, but as Salazar cleared the water he started fighting something! I couldn’t see it but I wanted to help! We all rushed to the edge of the water tunnel and I ran out the water, Salazar was slashing his swords but all I saw were shadows! Your sister cast a spell of some sort and all of the sudden I saw a giant square covered in vines standing directly in front of Salazar! I knew I had to do something so I blessed my fellows to help them achieve victory! But out of nowhere poor kind Martius was sucked into the giant odd beast! I’ve never seen anything like it…. all I could think to do was call upon the winds and thunder of Valkur to aid them. Eventually we were able to slay it, we all were fine and wow did it feel great! My first battle since leaving Omgar! Martius was definitely covered in very nasty jelly of some sort though. I will have to check up on him, pneumonia is very dangerous to older Tortles, I am thinking humans more so…. After this we continued up the tunnel, they discovered some scribbles on the wall but we kept going. Eventually coming up to an open room. At this point I learn what a Pole bear is and Oh man are they colossal. They look far stronger than the things living on Omgar and the cave was filled with them. Obviously if these creatures like shiny things I don’t think we could take them back by force. After following a side path away from the bears we came upon a well-lit room and I couldn’t believe it, the room was lined with weapons and armor! A man sat in the middle of the room but…no…he wasn’t a human man. He had ears and features akin to the Burr cats that live on Omgar! I learned later that he was a Tabaxi, his name was Silent Mockingbird and he had Eilis’s sword. I liked him very much and he gave Eilis back her sword without complaint. He claims the pole bears bring him stuff and offered to help us if we want to purchase weapons as he has so many on his walls. I would like to talk to him again. I did ask him briefly about the weather and the history of the area, he told me I should check with some monks who reside in a tower. Maybe they keep a history or are very old, either way a group of adventurers are heading to it on very soon and I am going to go with them. Hopefully I can solve this problem and bring the seasons back to Summerport. Sincerely, Makani Pahili Cleric of Valkur 1/15/2018 0 Comments Ser Mathius' letter to scarletby ser mathius (Jeremy) | REad Sualiwag's RECAPDear Scarlet, It’s me, Marthius. As I promised, I would send a letter on the night of my arrival in the lands of Summer-port. Perhaps I was a-tad stretching when I told you the waters would be warm, and the sun in plenty; however, I think that I can do real good hear. I understand, I am just an old knight, wrecked in my main-hand, and using my left as if it were dominant; and true, perhaps the line of work is designed and built for a younger generation that does not carry the wounds of so many years of battle. Yet, when I arrived in this damned city of chill and death, I felt alive. Alive, and strong, and like something that I had been missing for so many years has been returned to me. My youth, my liveliness, my energy, all flowing back moments after stepping onto the urban decayed landscape of Summer-port. And true enough, I was needed! You have so much worry that they would shrug off an old knights aid. The opposite had occurred in-fact: entering into the local saloon, one “Thieves’ Tankard” Sualiwag and I were able to lend some help in clearing out several buildings of the savage beast they resided in them, getting furs and boots from the leathers of the local beasts as compensation. Without them, I very much doubt that dear ol’ Sualiwag would be without his feet, and rather with frostbitten stumps. Sure he might complain of the discomfort of clunky old shoes; but I think surely he is getting use to them. In-fact, I saw him forgetting to take them off that night you should have seen the look on his face when he awoke to find them still there, as bright as a tomato! But, as noted, we were certainly needed, and welcomed into the community. There seems to be fifty odd members of the urban ruble- amongst them a band of rather trained adventurers. So much like myself from my youth- I only hope to catch up to there skill with this blasted left hand. Amongst them were elves, half elves, and a lizard-folk of especial interest: Salazar- bannered in black scales, and a-few members of what I could only assume to be a cult known only as “Gaia.” by brynn (steve D.) 21 spring fellSee Jerimiah's Recap GAIA DAMN IT! DAMN THESE PIRATES FOREVER!!!! They bring nothing but pain and chaos! They’re going to get everyone in Summerport killed! We were supposed to meet with representatives of the Fist at the safe house at midnight, but the morning before Thrugg thought it would be a good idea to summon some wolves with his damn accordion! And oh boy Gaia did he summon some wolves! When he started playing awful music, four winter wolves with bright blues eyes came charging at us! Along with the old gang of Salazar, Thrugg, and Dwain, we had two new members in our party Gaia. The first was Jeramiah, a half-orc who appears to be quite skilled in magic, and Doross, a poor half-elf who was frozen to death by one of the white wolves in this encounter. Short of introducing himself I don’t believe I even heard him say a word. His frozen body has been placed in front of the entrance of the Thieves Tankard in honor of his memory. His death is on Thrugg’s hands Gaia, and I hope this traveler’s deceased soul finds peace with you. This battle with the white wolves was the last thing we needed to be involved in right before the meeting. We shouldn’t even be fighting wolves as they, like all living things, are one with you. We should be fighting the undead! But I digress… |
