by Noric Synphase (Beau W.)TL;DR: Adventurers break open the second sylvan obelisk in Black River Swamp and recover a mithral blade (one of four). See Obelisks of the Bayou So, the story starts off with a healthy band of adventures that decide to head West in search of the Obelisk they found a short while ago. We needed some experienced fighters on our side for the dangers that we could be facing, and we ventured out in search of knowledge and treasure. The perilous journey Westward began shortly after they traveled about a day. Our warriors are ambushed by a small group of 6 or so lizard folk. As the battle raged on, the party was able to dispatch the raiding party, while knocking 2 unconscious. Because I can speak their language, I find out that their way of fighting is of honor and for “Their King”. We as the group tried to see if there was a way to get an audience with the leader, the two warriors said that (Roughly translated) “since we do not speak for our group of people, our king will not hear your words, because your words hold no weight”… more or less. After a bit of talking, we find out that WE have disgraced them by not killing them in battle. In order to appease their own “honor code”, we challenged them to a one-on-one battle to the death. Because we are here to tell this story, you now know that battle was ours! The adventures move farther into the woods avoiding the problems near the shore and the birds that could possibly pound us into the sandy beach. We avoided the encounter all together and started heading North to the Obelisk. After a short walk, we find the obelisk and proceed to devise a way to open the door without triggering the spire. At this point, we have no idea how the spire is triggered which made the next hour-long discussion fun and intriguing. With some brilliant planning and expert stonecutter knowledge we were able to attach ropes to the door, placing large poles that we dug into the ground and in a “pully style” method, we as the group were able to open the door.

by krolan ironbender (doug s.) 28 hsTL;DR: Krolan the dwarven ranger arrives on Black River Island and explores a sunken bunker defended by Shimmerscale lizardfolk. Hekili's Recap | Ralthor's Recap | Vandil's Recap | Fagan's Recap The Black River Island Tavern is busy. Dozens of fishermen, merchants and adventurers gather for supper as Hurlee has created a feast from the various creatures hunted and trapped in the wilds of the bayou. Rawq Elrid provides assistance in the kitchen with spices and some cooking skills shared from the Hayer to liven up the crowd. As the patrons sit and dig into their meals, a rather large mountain dwarf steps up onto a table in the corner of the hall and announces, “Ladies and gentlemen! My name is Krolan Ironbender, gladiator and dungeon delver from the high peaks of the Farclan! Focus your attention for the next few minutes as I present a true tale of discovery, combat and high-adventure from my party’s expedition into the harsh south bayou! Listen closely, as you may set foot upon this very site…” With that, Krolan draws a perfectly sharpened battleaxe with his right hand and a handaxe detailed in dwarven runes in his left. Each weapon catches the dim room light as they are wielded in strong, fluid motions as the dwarf reenacts the physical elements of the dramatic story as it unfolds. Krolan takes in a deep breath and begins to regale the previous day’s events… “The nimble forest hunter, called Vandil, recruited four brave souls along with myself to join him on a mission to clear a partially sunken bunker of stone deep in the central southern bayou region that he had discovered some time before. The mighty Raalthor, my towering dragonborn nomad friend, followed our halfling guide closely. The charismatic and well-known gnome bard, Namfoodle, a half-elf burglar called Fagan, and a very unusual turtle-humanoid warlock called Hekili rounded out the party. Finding the ruin structure did not take as long as rumored, due to Vandil’s keen skills as a guide and hunter. We discovered that the structure portals were mostly left open after the prior party exited, but some key rooms remained un-explored. One such area was barred by a jammed stone, pocket door…that I nearly cracked my head open with a crowbar trying to open,” Krolan acts out a crowbar striking himself on the side of his face, then continues, “…but Raalthor made quick work of loosening the portal with a loud mechanical clank. 11/30/2017 0 Comments Sunken Ruinby raalthor (Matt S.) 28 HSTL;DR: Ralthor joins a party to continue exploring a submerged ruin. Krolan's Recap | Vandil's Recap | Heliki's Recap | Fagan's Recap Sitting down at the tavern, Raalthor began working away with a whetstone on his greatsword. His clanmates had taught him well about the necessity of caring for his equipment. With a small smile (for a dragonborn), he hoped that the day’s exertions would make them proud. He’d joined a small crew of adventurers to investigate some sunken ruins, lead by the halfing ranger Vandil. Raalthor’s ancestral armor had been damaged during his time in the ice, so he looked for any opportunity to fund the repairs. But more important than that was to live. To exalt in the glory of life, in combat, in the struggle; to prove himself worthy of the Odinsori. The events in the ruins would certainly qualify. Vandil had previously burned away some moss covering one of the sliding doors found throughout the ruins. It’d taken quite a bit of struggling with a crowbar, but that door had slammed open. Unfortunately, the mystically-glowing moss covering the floor of the room beyond also contained some strange moving growths that made the most maddeningly unearthly shrieking he’d ever heard. Shriller than any Stormhorn eagle, he’d waded in with the rest of the crew to try and cut them down. Than the corpses came. 11/30/2017 0 Comments Return to the forbidden dungeonby vandil (Alex P) 28 HSCleared the remaining unexplored rooms of an ancient flooded structure a half days trek from BRI. A pack of shimmerscale lizardfolk had taken residence in the lower rooms, attempting to loot the deepest room. We proactively defended ourselves against them and found the treasure hoard behind the final door.
Oh there was a pile of ancient sylvan corpses in another back room. Builders of the structure carved this near the treasure hoard: “The warrior of the four seasons steps between the worlds on the fullest night." Tonight is the new moon, is that when night is most full? Are these words connected to the four obelisks rumored to be in this swamp? 11/30/2017 0 Comments in search of a fiend. Nope.by hekili nalani (Vera D.) 28HSI joined a party of adventurers to check out a sunken dungeon. Vandil, the wood elf, mounted on a giant wolf spider, had been there before and wanted to make sure the dungeon was cleared out. I went hoping to find some evil souls to return to the Fiend. What we found were screeching mushrooms and about 10 lizardfolk of the Shimmerscale clan.
We defeated the lizardfolk although it took a while in the water-filled room. I am still practicing my Eldritch Blast...It sparks and crackles, and sometimes blasts. I hope to have better control next time! Krolon the dwarf opened up a room and we found a hoard of treasure plus a wall with sylvan writing: The warrior of the four seasons steps between the worlds on the fullest night." I don't know what that means but the others who have been on this island for a while say it's related to the sea hags and four obelisks that imprison undead sylvans. |
