Day 1: 14 Spring Swell AE I arrived in Black River Island this morning. Eilis wasn’t here. She’s gone. She’s gone back to Verloren. Astrid is dead. She’s gone. Dead. The pain is indescribable. I look into the mirror and see her looking back at me. She stands before me, but she’s not here nor there. And I couldn’t save her. I live only to endure the rest of my days as the breathing memorial of my other half. - A. Day 2: 15 Spring Swell AE Encountered a curious set of vines blocking our path towards Fort Providence. They seemed sentient. We gave it wide berth to avoid an entanglement. Cyclorana australis, giant frog, kept as pets by the bullywugs. Green and brown on the dorsal surface. Longitudinal skin folds with a second pair on the flanks. Tympanum is partially covered and distinct. Rear toes have light webbing and front toes are free from webbing. Bullywug soldier. There are 5 guarding Fort Providence. Primitive humanoid creature with frog features. Short and stout, they wear leathers and carry simple weapons of spear with stone tips. They appear relaxed at the fort. They also have plots of vegetables. The fort itself seems in disrepair and needs restoration. Day 3: 16 Spring Swell AE We head northwest on the Black River and surpass markings left by another party: a mountain with a ring. They appear at fairly regular intervals. Ursus arctos, brown bear, or bruin. A predominantly dark, richly brown-colored (with rare light-colored individuals), moderately sized subspecies with dark claws. Crocodylus (crocodile). Although capable of saline environments, this species prefers fresh water. The average adult male can span 11 to 16 ft. in length and weigh more than a ton. It can hold breath for 15 minutes with swim speed of 20 ft. Has powerful, elongated jaws. Their skin is scaly and their eyes have a nictitating membrane to protect the eyes. Their coloration helps camouflage it, especially in these murky black waters. Day 4: Lizard wut?! 17 Spring Swell AE Just off the west side of the river bank, we spotted a stone marker. We landed and took a rubbing but we couldn’t read what it said. Rawq observed a path leading into the forest. He and I led the party cautiously for 20 min until we saw a tall lizard man with a spear and shield. I wish Astrid were here -- I bet she’d know what that creature was. Rawq and I dove off the side of the path and urged Udo and Kanyu to hurry back to our canoes. We jumped in and took off. On the way, I spotted a great wild boar. We camped down river about ½ mile away from the watering hole. During Udo’s watch, four twig blights attacked us. I cast entangle to restrain them while my mates finished them off. Kanyu heard cackling laughter as we finished them off. Who would toy with us? I was wary to stay in the same area but the party agreed it was safer to stay on dry land. Day 5: Bullywugs Attack! 18 Spring Swell AE We were cruising along to Black River Island when a bullywug scout spotted us and called his party to attack us. Kanyu and I tried to appeal to them but they were hostile (unlike their more primitive cousins, the tree frog). One attempted to blow a poisonous dart at Udo but I blew poison spray at him first in self defense. We ended up taking to the trees (except for Rawq) and defending ourselves at range. I reluctantly used Moonbeam, which proved to be effective in taking out the bullywugs. The bullywugs are admirably organized and were calling to each other from bases around the bayou. After we took out eight bullywugs, we launched the canoes and paddled with all of our strength. We made it back to Black River Island by 9 p.m. Hurley Lecke’s porridge tasted so darn good. Reflecting upon today's events, I am conflicted. I don't want to disturb the natural order of the people who live in the bayou. Despite the failure to make peace earlier today, we need to strive for coexistence.
