by jerwin (Adam L F)Dear Dad, I hope this finds you all well. I thought I would send you an account of my first “adventure”. I joined a group of newcomers to this area on a Ham Hunt. We met at the tavern here in Fort Providence and seeing how I was casually acquainted with Som and Varron already (Som is a barbarian who came through our home a few years ago and Varron is one of those young Firbolg we met last summer) I decided to join them with the Tiefling Syndar and a dirty, drunk Dwarf monk named Ham who had thought this little journey up. Needless to say that getting to the “Watering Hole” to kill a boar didn’t go that easily. Almost to the river due west of here we came to a split in the road when it all went quiet. As I knew from growing up in the wilds, this was never a good thing. Our drunken monk decided to sneak ahead to the right to see if he could find anything, Som and Varron decided to follow leaving me with the mysterious Paladin. Apparently the Paladin is impulsive and took off down the other path. I followed so that he wasn’t alone. Next thing I knew we spy three Bullywogs - frog people - watching the far bank when the impulsive Paladin spooks them making noise! The next thing I know he starts yelling and banging on his shield in some sort of idiotic challenge and sends them running at our companions across the narrow bog. A fight ensues of course and Ham almost dies. I healed him all the while thinking that Syndar is an idiot. After I did my duty I wandered over to where the frogs were hiding and discover a small dugout and a small sack slightly buried there. I open it up seeing nothing but darkness so I took it back to the group borrowed Varron’s shield and turned the bag upside down. Low and behold a huge pile of silver coins and seven severed heads fall out. I FOUND A BAG OF HOLDING! How cool is that? We cleaned up after refilling the bag, adding a severed Bullywog leg to the hoard. Ham wants to try froglegs. We followed along the bank until we reach the watering hole and find nothing. We set a trap, deciding to spend the night. Of course we are awakened in the night by a bear getting caught in the trap. Varron, who can speak to animals, lets the bear go, which I completely approve of. The next day we move on along a marked path looking for some canoes left in the area when we stumble upon a Sorrel digging a burrow. We realize that it has smashed the canoes we were looking for in the process of building the burrow, so much for sailing down the river. We attempt to move on when the Paladin makes enough noise to wake a Treant startling the Sorrel. The beast comes at us because we are obviously too close to its nest. The next thing I know I am all alone! Cowards! Vanished! Fortunately as a Druid I can calm the savage beast and charm it to go about its business as we move along. At this point I am starting to second guess leaving you and mom to search for ancient druid groves. Oh, yeah, Som, being a into maps, marked where the nest was because we heard that someone wanted to hatch Sorrel eggs to try and tame them. If you can read the barbarian’s handwriting that person can go back in a few days to see if there are eggs in the burrow.(edited)
Eventually we managed to find signs of boars and set up the trap and a plan to kill one. This went sideways on us too as instead of a regular boar we of course get a Giant Boar. At this point I am once again rethinking leaving home. We luckily managed to kill it without incident with Ham gleefully delivering the killing blow. We carved it up with the Tiefling wanting the tusks for some reason and spent another night in the wilds before taking a long and winding path back to Fort Providence.I now have seven heads that need to be identified in a magic bag along with a handkerchief bearing a vaguely familiar design of a tree under three diamonds. I am putting out the word about the heads, hoping that someone can identify them and maybe we can bring some closure to some grieving families. I am also going to see if anyone nearby can assist me in identifying the design on the handkerchief. Sorry that this is so long but I wanted you to have some details. Again, I hope you and mom are doing well and let my sister know that I did manage to survive in the wild despite her claims that I wouldn’t. Jerwin P.S. I joined a Circle of the Land to further my training.
