by ayten gilrin (vera D) 16-22 hsTL;DR: Adventurers arrive on Omgar and befriend its inhabitants, the Tortles. They explore the haunted palace of Umberlee, the human goddess of the sea aka "The Bitch Queen" sea pirate. They fight a lot of monsters and come back to Black River Island with a ton of resources. Plus, Ayten buys an almiraj and bloodhawk. He's using his share to start an animal sanctuary. After returning from the Eladrinne obelisk, the party and I thought of returning but instead we looked south to the rock formation that was off in the horizon. Dupree, a human cleric new to Black River Island joined us (Roscoe, Benny, Morgrimm, and Haldor). Rawq decided to head off to the west in search of stone.
Roscoe offered the services of Rayberto, a fisherman, who could take us south to investigate. Upon arriving onto the rock, we discovered it was a well developed island. Two turle-men stood guard at the gates. I cautioned Benny not to run up and engage in a threatening manner and his brother, Roscoe, was ready to pull him back. I called out to the guards and let them know we meant no harm, just curious. And in a really laidback tone, the two guards, said, “Oh cool. Yeah, welcome to Ahoy Ahoy.” These fascinating islanders, Baka and Ubo, invited us to their bustling village, Ahoy Ahoy, and shared that the island, their god, Omgar, travels the world. They identified their race as tortle. Tortle Culture Tortles come of age at 15, and leave Omgar to adventure. The only reason they return to Omgar is to breed and then die. They have a saying “We wear our homes on our backs.” They are very hospitable and kind creatures. Tortles are pragmatic and they see beauty in the ordinary. I rather appreciate their simple and harmonious culture. They gather in the town square to share stories. They keep their young eggs in a hatchery that the parents tend to until they hatch. Then the parents go away and die. It’s rather sad and beautiful at the same time. Omgar is huge and the tortles say wherever Omgar goes, they go. There is legend of yuanti, evil snake people on the island as well as a haunted palace that the young tortles go to adventure and practice for going out into the world. Dunguaro - Palace of the Bitch Queen, Umberlee While in the market, I bought a unicorn horned rabbit (almiraj) and a bloodhawk. I want to find their natural habitat and set them free. Dupree bought a basket of snakes. Baka and Ubo invited us to a community performance for the village . Dupree shared his story with the younglings. As we were listening, Baka and Ubo mentioned that the young come of age by adventuring at the palace of the human sea goddess, Umberlee. She had arrived on the island more than 100 years ago and built herself a grand palace. Rumors were that it was haunted.

Instead, Wicked Polly Frogwart (aka Pollen) disrupts the peace talk, Theo and Haldor fire the first shot, and the clans clash. Shimmerscale declares he will not let Black River Island adventurers proceed safely in the bayou. Theobold's Recap | Koltalon's Recap 12 -13 Highspring - Clan Shimmerscale My fellow Shield members decided to join the Heralds, led by Theobold Peacekeeper, on the mission to discuss a weapons trade with the chiefs of the lizardfolk. Chief Udo and Theobold speculated on whether or not Chief Atuji would be in attendance. Theo wanted to bring dwarven forged weapons to impress the Shimmerscale clan but having firsthand experience with the Greatscale clan, we insisted that "silver stings" like arrows and hand axes of "silver light" (or steel) would be sufficient in satisfying the lizardfolk's expectations for weapons. We left a couple days before the scheduled parlay on 14 of Highspring, anticipating yet another ambush. Surprisingly, we spent the next couple of days without much disturbance except for Haldor's brief encounter with some large lizard beasts. A guard that Theo called Longtail, but whose real name is Thisma, scolded us for not telling them we had left our camp to investigate the lizard beasts. Honestly, they seem less accommodating and hospitable than the Greatscale Clan of the East. I don't like them at all. 11/2/2017 0 Comments The Shield of Sanctus is reformedby koltalon (alex p.) 10-14 hsTL;DR: The covenant between lizardfolk clans is dissolved; people of Black River Island will be treated as outsiders and attacked if discovered in their lands. Only the Greatscale Clan will continue diplomacy. We must work hard to bring peace to this land if we are ever to move beyond and begin colonization efforts in earnest. The Shield of Sanctus is reformed. I have had the pleasure of spending the last week exploring this swamp with old company members discussing the future of this land. Recognizing the need for a martial arm in the colonization efforts of the people of overcrowded Sanctus, we have formally reformed the Shield to provide such support. Udoroth the dragonborn paladin of Baphomet has taken the reigns and is crafting a letter to inform the Council of Sanctus of our intentions and needs. I have put together a short document that outlines our company and provides initiate hopefuls with some basic information on joining our honorable ranks. See the attached document. Marelda the young half-orc war cleric seems to be a good candidate to join the ranks, I expect there will be many more willing to aid this cause of necessary violence. Now for my field report. The goal of this mission was to meet with the lizardfolk clan chiefs on the night of the full moon, their regular meeting time to exchange gifts and maintain relations. We arrived a bit early and camped at the stone marker on the river. Returning from a hunting trip the shimmerscale captain taught us their technique for declaring such activities. A ranged weapon planted point first into the ground leaning in the direction of the hunt will inform others to avoid that area as to avoid spoiling said hunt. Eventually the night of the clan meet arrived and we were escorted by a retinue of guards from each of the clans lead us to the center of the great clearing beyond the stone avenue. Four clan assembled separate from each other around a great bonfire. Here we met their leaders: Shikma of the shimmerscale with their iridescent fins, Atuji of the greatscale with their large dorsal fins, Jukni of the strongclaw with their yellow fins, and Brawsk of the deepbreath with their blue scales. 11/2/2017 0 Comments Fucking Up the Bayou: An Apologyby theobold peacekeeper (alan H.) 12-15 hsTL;DR Talks with Lizardfolk interrupted by Hag (presumably Wicked Polly Frogwart), and things went south. Watch out for murderous hags, troglodytes, and Shimmerscale lizardfolk out there everybody! Also see "Chief Atuji of Greatscale Clan" It took us awhile to formulate our plan, but with a set of battleaxe gifts for the Lizardfolk chiefs we were anticipating to meet, we set off in canoes toward the Western Obelisk. We arrived in the afternoon of 12HS and had to bide our time until 14HS for the High Moon, where the Lizardfolk of the Shimmerscale Clan would invite the other chieftains for trade. Our party consisted of Udoroth as our chief representative, as both leader of The Shields and draconic interpreter, Merelda of The Shields, Koltalon of The Shields, and Haldor and myself representing The Heralds. After setting camp, we signaled the whistle that the lizardfolk use to notify each other of presence (*high note, followed by long and low note), and were met by Thizma (previously known as Longtail). After biding our time and waiting, Haldor experienced a brief encounter with lizard-like beasts known as Troglodytes while out on a hunt, as Thizma informed us later. These were the same creatures that we saw when first encountering Dufdor, the Watcher of the Southern Waters. On 14HS, we finally were presented to the gathering of the Four Clans at a large pyramid temple of some sort, where the Lizardfolk had erected a large bonfire. We were formally introduced to the four clan chieftains, of which Etuji had already met with many in our group
9/22/2017 0 Comments back from the brinkby SHAENA TOSSCOBBLE (lisa s.) 19-22 SS19 Springswell, 1 A.E. I’ve been cooped up at the Black River Tavern for over a week. I had watched adventurers come in and go out, but no one seemed to need a perky halfling among their party. And so, I practiced my trade, learning a few new tricks along the way. One evening, the innkeeper Hurlee took me aside and rewarded my day’s work with some of her own private reserve Helles. It seems she is quite the brewer. The ale was certainly a step above anything coming from the Albannic region these days. On another day, I was commiserating with Feinthald about the trials of being a bard. He’s really not so bad a man if you can overlook his blatant lack of talent and overstated self-importance. He told me of a story he learned from a mad halfling named Pascale. Pascale told of a portal the Feywilde plane to the north in the marshes of the Black River region. It opened only during high summer. From the way he described Pascale, I question the truth of this rumor. But it was enough to bring Feinthald to this backwater tavern in the hopes of finding adventurers who would take him to the portal when the season was right. I wasn’t the only one spending time in the Tavern though. Along the way I met Liam Buckham, another half-elf of Diwata heritage. He is known as a researcher on control of magical arts. Something about him reminds me of a tale I once heard of a young child whose soul was sold to a demon. Over time, he lost control of the power within him, killing his parents. Could this be that child? I can’t help but worry what will happen when he is called on to cast spells in the field. I also met a stout halfling, clad head to heal in heavy armor and bristling with weapons. He has a reputation among the fishermen and ship crew for slaying a pirate captain. |
