11/2/2017 0 Comments Fucking Up the Bayou: An Apologyby theobold peacekeeper (alan H.) 12-15 hsTL;DR Talks with Lizardfolk interrupted by Hag (presumably Wicked Polly Frogwart), and things went south. Watch out for murderous hags, troglodytes, and Shimmerscale lizardfolk out there everybody! Also see "Chief Atuji of Greatscale Clan" It took us awhile to formulate our plan, but with a set of battleaxe gifts for the Lizardfolk chiefs we were anticipating to meet, we set off in canoes toward the Western Obelisk. We arrived in the afternoon of 12HS and had to bide our time until 14HS for the High Moon, where the Lizardfolk of the Shimmerscale Clan would invite the other chieftains for trade. Our party consisted of Udoroth as our chief representative, as both leader of The Shields and draconic interpreter, Merelda of The Shields, Koltalon of The Shields, and Haldor and myself representing The Heralds. After setting camp, we signaled the whistle that the lizardfolk use to notify each other of presence (*high note, followed by long and low note), and were met by Thizma (previously known as Longtail). After biding our time and waiting, Haldor experienced a brief encounter with lizard-like beasts known as Troglodytes while out on a hunt, as Thizma informed us later. These were the same creatures that we saw when first encountering Dufdor, the Watcher of the Southern Waters. On 14HS, we finally were presented to the gathering of the Four Clans at a large pyramid temple of some sort, where the Lizardfolk had erected a large bonfire. We were formally introduced to the four clan chieftains, of which Etuji had already met with many in our group

10/31/2017 0 Comments to the midden heapby Lindir Balaeth mitore (Jacob b.) 5 - 7 hsTLDR: Lindir and members of Shield trek into the bayou to find the Midden Heap and instead stumble upon the Greatscale Clan. (Session date: 10/14 and 10/31 combined) 5th of High Spring After several days of training and honing my combat skills. I sat in the Black River Tavern drinking my problems away. I looked over and saw a large golden dragonborn adorned in plate armor and carrying a formidable great sword. After thinking long and hard I recognized the face of the dragonborn from that tragic day when I lost all of my brothers on the battlefield. I haven’t seen Udoroth since that day and it was nice to see a familiar face. Shortly after a sturdy, young half orc female walked in looking way too cheery for my liking, and she had a funny accent. Followed shortly after her, a skinny looking wizard and another familiar face; I thought Koltalon died at Providence with the rest of his unit but he made it out. He’s always been resilient as much as he is honorable. I’d go into battle with anyone from the Shield. After chatting with the former members of the Shield I decided to take part in the adventure to clear this so called “Midden Heap” to restore balance to the bayou. Our party departed Black River and began heading North towards where the Midden Heap was rumored to be. A short way into our journey we encountered a bullywug scout; I stealthily dispatched him with one shot from my longbow Dol Feredir (Head Hunter). A group of bullywugs noticed I split one of their warriors in half and blew their conch horn for reinforcements from Providence I’m assuming and attacked us. Our party dispatched them with ease and continued forward into the bayou. 10/31/2017 0 Comments A way out of the bayouby merelda meznen (vera d.) 5-9 hsTL;DR: Merelda, the young half-orc cleric, joins Shield to locate and destroy the Midden Heap. Instead they discover a thriving lizardfolk village of Clan Greatscale outside of the bayou. The party earns the favor and respect of Chief Atuji and learn there are hills and plains beyond the bayou. (Note: Clan Greatscale is a point of light...for now.) 5 Highspring - Bullywugs Attack! After returning from my last expedition into the bayou, I met a great dragonborn paladin by the name of Udoroth. His reputation is well known around the Island - he leads Shield and has defeated many foes in the field. I accepted his invitation to trek into the bayou in search of a creature he and his comrades, Lindir and Koltalon, keep calling the "Midden Heap." I thought they were referring to garbage but they keep referring to it as a person, particularly a witch of some sort. My new friend, Liam, joined us, and we left Black River Island, headed northeast. It wasn't too long that we were ambushed by bullywugs during the night. Ultimately we prevailed and Liam called my warhammer "Bonecrusher." It has a nice ring to it, so that is what I shall call my best weapon going forward. Father would be pleased. 6 - 7 Highspring - Clan Greatscale We continued east and fortunately avoided a sorrel's nesting grounds. However, we got lost and I shimmied up a tree to determine where to go. I had smelled smoke and from the tree's high vantage, I saw smoke rising up. If Midden Heap is garbage, maybe that was the way. Instead, we ended up coming upon a small tower guarded by eight lizardfolk. by udoroth Thammilidaar (kelsey w.) 14-18 ssBlack River Island & The Bayou The last four days proved to be little help as I prepared for my next journey into the bayou. No one on Black River Island seems to know anything about bullywugs or their purpose at Fort Providence. Even the Warden, who knows more languages than almost everyone I have ever met, can’t teach me one word in the bullywug language. There has to be a way… More visitors arrived today, some of which looked suitable for the challenges I hoped to tackle the upcoming morning. Wait - who is that? That male elf looks awfully familiar, white hair, almost like…did Eilis mention having a brother? I confidently introduced myself to Ayten Gilrin when I saw him in the tavern, and inquired about his relation to Eilis. It turned out I was correct, and he asked me where I could find her. I informed him that Eilis had left on the boat with several others a few days prior, and without hesitation, I offered my condolences for the loss of their sister, Astrid [I had been with Eilis when she received a letter stating that Astrid had been killed]. I instantly knew that this was new information for Ayten. Shit. Now how am I supposed to ask him to join me in the bayou? Before I could come up with my next words, a dwarf in leather who I would almost describe as lanky for his kind turned up next to me, and took Ayten’s hands in what looked like a peace offering. Monks….this monk. Swiftwater? 9/30/2017 0 Comments A Tavern Taleby Rawq Elrid (Doug s.) 14-19 SSAn uncommonly relaxed, mild-mannered dwarf sits near the fire hearth of the Black River Island Tavern. Two patrons notice blood stains spotting through the dwarf’s light robes and sit down to inquire about the source of his wounds. He looks up casually at the pair of young adventures and reviews the course of the last five days. “…the big water may look like rolling hills, but definitely do not feel like them on a long journey. The heat and humidity on this island are difficult to adjust to, unless you’re a dwarf, of course. The bigger concern in this settlement is a lack of solid structures. Nothing beats comfort of a stone building, especially to defend against the heavy weather and all the foul beast that can emerge from the dark waters surrounding this village. Stone walls are also a must…and I am planning to rectify that situation once I get my callused hands on some granite slabs from the Hills. It’s just not right to build homes and businesses completely from twigs and branches. I want to apply my stone-craft to help Dougal Ainsley fortify his tower and the community he has worked so hard to develop.” “Oh! You want to hear about my flesh wound. Well, now…that is a more enlightening tale. Being surrounded by water nearly every step of our journey through the Black River marshlands was unsettling enough, but the constant buzzing and chirping and croaking of the wildlife plus the dense vegetation took some getting used to. I took comfort in my elven companions who appeared quite at home in this teaming environment.” |
