He writes some new songs. Salazar's Recap | Theobold's Recap | Mindartis' Recap | Kegrove Chronicles Well, recent events have forced me to continue documenting my adventures in this paltry medium. It appears that the great wave we sought refuge from sent us nearly 1,000 years into the future. On our arrival, it was quite clear that Summerport had been decimated. What was once a mighty tropical port is not longer mighty, tropical, nor even a port. In light of this, I have renamed this city to Winterport! Seeing our surroundings, Dwain and I volunteered to take point and make sure the way to the Tankerd was safe. We left Onen and Salazar at the obelisk to manage the survivors with clear instructions that they should give us a head start and then follow. Not wanting to burden Onen and Salazar more, we let Bryn join us. We made it to the Tankerd, made the necessary fixes to ensure that it was habitable and located enough rations for our party and the survivors for several days. After doing so, Onen and Salazar made it to the Tankerd with a handful of men. Salazar informed me that the rest were lost. Knowing Salazar all too well, I ran out to try to rescue as many of my fans as I could. While my efforts were great, we still lost nearly 100 of the survivors. I don’t blame Salazar for this, after all, what did I expect? However, I am disappointed that Onen was not able to do more to protect these innocent survivors from Salazar’s actions. The next day Dwain and I decided to explore the city and salvage what we could. Bryn came along as well - though, to be honest, with all that talk about Gaia, I should have just left him in Salazar’s care. We first attempted to make it to the bazaar, but our way was blocked by a horde of undead so we went to the port instead. Of course, this was not without its obstacles as well. I was forced to save our small band from a pack of wolves, but thanks to my efforts we made it to the port in one piece-ish.
The port was the first sign of human life we had seen since our arrival. Three ships were moored there. It was obvious that morale of the crewmen were in shambles, so I put on a show to raise their spirits. Unfortunately, my performance was cut short as the undead and wolves attacked us! Dwain and I ran to defend the barricades guarding the port. Bryn just ran. Dwain truly is a great warrior. I watched him kill at least 30 undead during our defense! This count only came in second to my 50. Nevertheless, even with our valiant efforts our position was overrun. We commanded the remaining crew to return to the two farther ships while we lured the undead and wolves onto the empty third. Once in, we launched our trap! We burned down the ship with them in it - which gave us, and the crew, time to escape on the other two ships. I asked the crew to sail for the Tankerd and after much discussion they agreed that we would sail for the Tankerd after meeting up with the rest of their merchant fleet. This took a few days - during which time I met new adventurers! After they found out who I was, they were quick to volunteer to join us to Winterport. They seem to be competent fighters - which will be needed - although they still needed my help in defeating a sea serpent when it attacked. By the time I was able to return to Winterport and the Tankerd, something was amiss! Another score of survivors had been slain, which, once again, was not surprising. However, the remaining survivors seem to not know who I am! To make matters worse, I was informed that Salazar has enslaved them! This is not the Salazar I have come to know and distrust! Salazar would never enslave another! I tried explaining this to the new adventurers. “While I may not trust Salazar with my life, I do trust him with my freedom!” Of course, my bardic lungs proved too loud. Salazar overheard our conversation. He tried explaining to the newcomers that the remaining survivors “aren’t slaves” and are simply “working without pay”. Somehow the new adventurers seem to be at least partially persuaded by this logic. With my great intellect, however, I see right through these words! I understand that these survivors are slaves in all but name. More importantly, I understand the ekonomiks of the matter: if my fans don’t have money, then they can’t give me money; if they can’t give me money, then I don’t make money. Ipso facto: If my fans don’t have money, I don’t have money. I cannot let this issue lie! Alas, I fear that if Salazar doesn’t turn from these evil ways, I won’t even be able to reward him with his new song!
