TLDR: Five days leading up to the ultimate hag showdown, we ran six assaults throughout the week leading up to Feb. 17 - from attacking the hags in their lairs, to defending Black River Island, and finally escorting the firbolg clan to Griphon's Roost. On Feb. 17, 20 players and 2 DMs converged for a 9-hour session to close out a major plot point. Three tactical squads (melee, range, and blended) deployed to take on two of the three standing hags, Molly and Midden Heap, at the White Tower, a gateway to the feywild on the night of the full moon. Many fell throughout the battle but we survived and "won" in 6 rounds. Thanks to all who played in the week and day of! (Thank you Lisa S. for recording this on paper as the raid occurred!)
We arrived at the space of the White Tower an hour before sunset. Merelda (through a clairvoyance potion) and the Jinn through his Raven familiar, scouted the tower’s location. The found a variety of 12 bullywugs, frogs, X lizardfolk, 5 Sahaugin, and 4 merrow. Squad 1 advanced. Liam drew the first blood with fire bolt, followed by Liana with an arrow. Kohaku held down the bullywug with a spiked growth. Squad 2 advanced. Squad 3 advanced. Lucretia called for her squad a blessing and called that they leave no one behind. Rhogar summoned a huge snake. Glin jumped on Rhogar’s horse and they rode into the fray. Krolan snuck in from the East side of the fray. Two Deepbreath lizardfolk advanced on the river, disappearing under the water as another squad dove into concealment. Many of the bullywugs tried to move through the spike growth, taking a fair amount of damage and killing 2 and bloodying another. The green hag disappeared from the battlefield. A tree erupted into entangling plants and a blight in the midst of Squad 2. The merrow engaged Krolan with harpoons. The second harpoon pulled him into their clutches. Another squad of Strongclaw lizardfolk advanced on Squad 2 and threw javelins at Koltalon. He knocked one aside but another struck him. Squad 1 advanced further. Shaena and Kohaku struck the Blight as Brea attempted to cast control water from a scroll. Instead she created a fog cloud along the river. Squad 2 Liam used a twinned scorching ray, causing a beam of fire to boil away the blight. Jinn cast dragon breath on Udoroth and then used acid splash on the Strongclaw lizardfolk near Koltalon. Koltalon advanced on the Strongclaw lizardfolk. He drew Autumn Fury & Summer’s Breath. They sung to him and he smashed them together to create an arcane longsword with smoke rising from the blade: Firestorm. Merelda cast sacred flame. Roscoe and Bennie shot short bows into the Strongclaw lizardfolk. Squad 3 Krolan engaged with the Merrow. Vincentos tried to cross the river and was attacked by the two Deepbreath swimming lizardfolk. He cast hellish rebuke and killed the first. Lucretzia cast sacred flame on the remaining river-lizardfolk, but missed. Rhogar and Glin rode forward on his horse and tried to trample the Strongclaw lizardfolk. Tormund tolled the dead and then dove into the river. Glin did acid splash on the Deepbreath lizardfolk.

11/28/2017 0 Comments trip to tortle islandby kellen McCall (steve b.) 24 -25 hsI set off to Tortle Island, also called Omgar with a few new companions: Halfling Brothers Benedict and Roscoe, a Dwarf named Morgrimm, a Songwee an Elf and Heliki a Tortle. Yeah, Tortle. It’s like…. A Turtle-Man. We set out to explore Omgar and after a nice visit in Ahoy Ahoy, the Tortle village, we went off to visit the Mudpool of Flurrb. Flurrb, with two R’s, I don’t know how to pronounce it, so I’ll pronounce it as flub, fair enough? Mudbath is highly recommended by myself and Benedict, felt wonderful to soak for an hour. There are three pools, we soak in one and felt great, next time another pool! From the mudpools, we went to investigate a snake shrine. At the snake shrine, two snakes came out and talked to us. Talking snakes and turtle people? Will wonders never cease? Snakes wanted us to return their gods Merishalk’s icons which were stolen by boulder creatures who live in a cave. Off we go to the cave! Lo and behold, there are boulder creatures that live in a cave not far away. Like, boulder creatures; small boulders with arms and legs. They’ve got shiny crystals inside them. Yeah, we had to kill a bunch of them. I had quite the hard time penetrating their thick rocky skin. Also in the caves was a creature…gods and blood how to describe it… a snail with flails on it’s back. Let’s call it a flailsnail shall we? We do manage to defeat all the rock guys and the flailsnail, find some treasure and head back to town. I have managed to upgrade my armor, and Roscoe gifted me with a shield. I feel much more confident in my abilities and equipment, I can’t wait to see what the future brings. 11/28/2017 0 Comments mud, snakes, and rock monstersby hekili nalani (vera d.) 24 hsTL;DR: A young tortle warlock (Hekili) goes on her first outing with seasoned adventurers and accept a quest from a pair of yuan-ti snake worshippers. See Kellen's recap I left the great Omgar and swam to Black River Island, a new place for me to find adventure. At the tavern, I met Morgrimm, a dwarven cleric; Sang Woo, a wood elf monk; two halfling brothers named Roscoe and Benny; and a human ranger named Kellen McCall. Morgrimm and the brothers had been to Omgar before, I knew of them from Kyull, who had cleared Umberlee's palace with them. What fierce adventurers these men are! They were interested in going to Omgar, so I accompanied them back. Morgrimm was looking for a giant lizard bird at the market, but Abu, had just sold it to a traveling royal a few days before. The dwarf bought an axebeak's egg instead. Since I wanted to start practicing my spells, I agreed to take the party to the old snake ruins east of Ahoy Ahoy. Along the way, I showed Benny an orchid called nightshade that has a narcotic, paralyzing effect. He was quite happy to have it. We made a stop at the mud mephitt, Flurrb's, mud baths. Those who take full advantage of the baths will truly feel refreshed afterwards, and in some cases, feeling stronger. 11/19/2017 0 Comments taking back ft. providenceby merelda meznen (vera d.) 23hsA party of us descended on Fort Providence to take it back for Shield on the morning of the 23rd of High Spring:
Vandil and Lindir stealthed ahead and scaled the wall and tower to take out the bullywug guards. We stayed back until we got the signal. We infiltrated the fort and battled many bullywugs and their giant frog pets. A shaman challenged us for a bit but ultimately we prevailed. Namfoodle got the shaman staff of sleep. Lindir and I are staying here at the fort to keep it secure until reinforcement arrives. by ayten gilrin (vera D) 16-22 hsTL;DR: Adventurers arrive on Omgar and befriend its inhabitants, the Tortles. They explore the haunted palace of Umberlee, the human goddess of the sea aka "The Bitch Queen" sea pirate. They fight a lot of monsters and come back to Black River Island with a ton of resources. Plus, Ayten buys an almiraj and bloodhawk. He's using his share to start an animal sanctuary. After returning from the Eladrinne obelisk, the party and I thought of returning but instead we looked south to the rock formation that was off in the horizon. Dupree, a human cleric new to Black River Island joined us (Roscoe, Benny, Morgrimm, and Haldor). Rawq decided to head off to the west in search of stone.
Roscoe offered the services of Rayberto, a fisherman, who could take us south to investigate. Upon arriving onto the rock, we discovered it was a well developed island. Two turle-men stood guard at the gates. I cautioned Benny not to run up and engage in a threatening manner and his brother, Roscoe, was ready to pull him back. I called out to the guards and let them know we meant no harm, just curious. And in a really laidback tone, the two guards, said, “Oh cool. Yeah, welcome to Ahoy Ahoy.” These fascinating islanders, Baka and Ubo, invited us to their bustling village, Ahoy Ahoy, and shared that the island, their god, Omgar, travels the world. They identified their race as tortle. Tortle Culture Tortles come of age at 15, and leave Omgar to adventure. The only reason they return to Omgar is to breed and then die. They have a saying “We wear our homes on our backs.” They are very hospitable and kind creatures. Tortles are pragmatic and they see beauty in the ordinary. I rather appreciate their simple and harmonious culture. They gather in the town square to share stories. They keep their young eggs in a hatchery that the parents tend to until they hatch. Then the parents go away and die. It’s rather sad and beautiful at the same time. Omgar is huge and the tortles say wherever Omgar goes, they go. There is legend of yuanti, evil snake people on the island as well as a haunted palace that the young tortles go to adventure and practice for going out into the world. Dunguaro - Palace of the Bitch Queen, Umberlee While in the market, I bought a unicorn horned rabbit (almiraj) and a bloodhawk. I want to find their natural habitat and set them free. Dupree bought a basket of snakes. Baka and Ubo invited us to a community performance for the village . Dupree shared his story with the younglings. As we were listening, Baka and Ubo mentioned that the young come of age by adventuring at the palace of the human sea goddess, Umberlee. She had arrived on the island more than 100 years ago and built herself a grand palace. Rumors were that it was haunted. |
